Exterior Renovations

Siding, windows, doors, decks, patios and roofing, from the house wrap to the last piece of trim.

Exteriors, step by step

How we run this job.

The same seven steps on every Pross exterior, scheduled around the weather so rain never gets behind new work.

  1. Quote in writing

We walk the outside of the house with you, check the siding, trim, windows and any soft spots, and put the whole scope in writing.

  2. Permits pulled

Decks, new openings and structural repairs usually need permits. We pull them, book the inspections and keep the paperwork for you.

  3. Asbestos checked If needed

Some older stucco, cement siding and roofing contain asbestos. If yours might, we test it before it comes off the wall.

  4. Build

House wrap first, flashing at every window and door, then siding and trim. We plan around the weather so rain never gets behind new work.

  5. Site swept

Offcuts hauled away and nails swept from the lawn and driveway with a magnet, every evening.

  6. Walk-through

We walk the house together, open every new window and door, and check the flashing and caulking up close.

  7. Keys back

Wrapped, sealed, trimmed and ready for the next West Coast winter.

Real exteriors

Some of these are mid-build on purpose. The wrap and the flashing are where an exterior job is won or lost.

Questions

Exterior questions, answered straight.

Can you work through Victoria's rainy season?

Yes, for most of it. Siding, windows and doors can go in through the wet months because the house is wrapped and flashed as we go, so rain never gets behind new work. Paint and some sealants need dry, mild days, so we save those for spring through early fall.

When should I book?

Earlier than you'd think. The dry months fill up first, so a walk-around in winter gets you on the schedule for spring and summer. Window and door replacements can often start sooner.

Do I need a permit for a deck?

Usually, if it's raised off the ground or attached to the house. The rules differ between Saanich, Victoria and the other municipalities, so we check yours at the walk-around and pull the permit.

What if you find rot behind the siding?

It's common on older houses here. We show you, put the cost in writing the same day, and repair the sheathing or framing before the new wrap goes on.
